How to get rid of acne scarring?

Acne scarring is the result of skin damage caused by severe or persistent acne. When the skin is inflamed due to acne, it can cause the production of excess collagen, leading to raised scars (known as keloids) or, in some cases, a loss of collagen that leads to indented scars.

However, there are many ways to treat acne scarring. At Dermatology Arts, we offer:

  1. Topical treatments: Topical creams and gels that contain retinoids, vitamin C, or hydroquinone can help to improve the appearance of scars.

  2. Chemical peels: Chemical peels use an acid solution to remove the outer layers of skin, promoting the growth of new skin and reducing the appearance of scars.

  3. Microneedling: Microneedling is a cosmetic procedure that uses a device with tiny needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. This triggers the skin's natural healing process and stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, two important proteins that help to improve the appearance of scars.

  4. Radiofrequency Microneedling: Microneedling can be used with radiofrequency therapy which uses energy to stimulate collagen production and improve the appearance of scars.

The best treatment for your acne scars depends on your skin type and the type of acne scars you have. If you are interested in treating your acne scarring, please schedule an appointment with one of our Master Aestheticians or with our cosmetic physician assistant, Roshni Changela, PA-C.
